One in eight people died of air pollution-related diseases in 2012, making air pollution the world’s largest single environmental health risk. In two of the world’s most polluted capitals Beijing and Ulaanbaatar – both in the East Asia region – the impacts of air pollution are also becoming more visible.
As long distance transboundary pollutants are recognized as one of the main sources of air pollution in the East Asia region, cross-border cooperation of neighboring countries is urgently needed. The EACAC is a response to this need for regional cooperation over air quality improvement.
ICLEI East Asia Secretariat will serves as the secretariat of the EACAC initiative to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of activities and programs. We are now in the process of recruiting partners and participants. We welcome:
