ICLEI has been working on sustainable procurement for over 18 years by helping public authorities to implement GPP, spread awareness of the concept, develop new approaches and encourage policy developments at the European and international level. We work through projects, promote the exchange knowledge and practices, and offer the following resources:
First held in Hannover, Germany in 1998, this conference series series is the only European-wide forum to promote exchange and dialogue amongst purchasers from all levels of governments, suppliers and policy-makers on strategies and the latest practical solutions on sustainable public procurement.
Since its launch in 2004, the campaign has been supporting public authorities to include environmental, social and economic considerations into their procurement policies and tendering procedures and promote their achievements.

ICLEI is a member of the European Commission’s GPP EU-27Advisory Group chaired by DG Environment; the European Commission’s Public Procurement Stakeholder Group, chaired by DG Internal Market and Services; the United Nations Sustainable Public Procurement Initiative and is a co-founder and Vice-Chair of the Internal Green Purchasing Network (IGPN).
