The second Climate Summit for Local and Regional Leaders was held on 14 November 2016 in parallel to COP22, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Marrakech, Morocco. The summit convened 1,100 participants from 114 countries, representing over 780 local and subnational governments, continuing the momentum build last year at the successful Climate Summit for Local Leaders in Paris City Hall.
The newly released 2015-2016 carbonn Climate Registry Digest shows that local and subnational governments in the ICLEI Network – from small communities, megacities and large subnational states – are well positioned to contribute to and even raise the ambitions of national climate commitments over the long and short term.
As a supporter of the 2016 World Forum on Transportation for Megacity Clusters on 3 and 4 November 2016, ICLEI East Asia Secretariat (EAS) co-hosted a one-day training workshop on 3 November with Beijing University of Technology (BUT) on sustainable urban mobility and urban planning, which involved over 60 participants from government affiliated institutes, universities and companies in the transportation sector.
