The 1st Talk4Action organized by the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat took place on Friday, April 26, 2013 discussing “Moving the Future – the Future of Moving.” It was a forum on EcoMobility to inspire the cities and local governments in the East Asian region on their journey to socially inclusive and environmentally friendly urban transportation.
The forum featured an intriguing keynote from Gil Penalosa, internationally renowned livable city advisor and international ambassador of the upcoming EcoMobility Festival, on “transforming streets to livable urban spaces”. The audience also listened attentively to a welcoming speech delivered by Mr. Sang-Bum Kim, Vice Mayor of Seoul Metropolitan Government, and city case presentations of four ICLEI member cities:
ㆍ Seoul, Vision of a Pedestrian-Friendly Seoul
ㆍ Suwon, Ecomobile City – Suwon
ㆍ Daegu, Jungang-ro Mass Transit Zone
ㆍ Changwon, The City building Green Transportation Infra based on Public Bike System
The Talk4Action continued with an in-depth panel discussion among four renowned experts in the field: Dr. Kulwant Singh (Regional Advisor, UN Habitat), Dr. Youngkook Kim (Research Fellow, Korea Transport Institute), Dr. Mihye Jang (Research Fellow, Korea Women’s Development Institute) and Ms. Yonhee Park (Director, ICLEI Korea Office) and facilitated by Mr. Konrad Otto-Zimmermann, Founding Director of the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat.
Despite the short notice, the forum attracted about 100 participants from local governments, universities and international organizations like CITYNET, C40 and WWF. Mr. Tsendsuren, Mayor of Zuunmod City, Mongolia, participated in the forum with his delegation, and decided to join ICLEI. ICLEI East Asia is pleased to soon welcome its first member from Mongolia.
