ICLEI East Asia and Seoul City strategized for 2015
Stepping into its fourth year of establishment, the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat met with the Climate Change and Sustainability Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government on 16 January to discuss strategic plans for development and cooperation in 2015.
Konrad Otto-Zimmermann, Founding Director of the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat, explained the work plan of the Secretariat in 2015, including Chinese cities’ participation in ICLEI World Congress 2015, which will take place in Seoul in April this year; the setting up of an ICLEI Representative Office in Beijing; as well as the further development of East Asia programs such as EcoProcura China 2015 and Energy-safe Cities East Asia program Scenario Workshop.
Working hands in hands in inviting Chinese cities to participate in ICLEI World Congress 2015, both parties agree that the event will mark a new phase of the East Asia Secretariat, in terms of its program and membership development in the East Asia region, as well as its relations with Chinese cities.
Young Soo Choi, Director of the Climate change and Sustainability Division of Seoul Metropolitan Government, recognized the achievements and strategic plans of the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat and recommended the Secretariat strengthen its promotion of achievement and activities to the public and cooperate closely in projects led by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
In 2015, Seoul City will focus on projects that aim to tackle climate change and reduce GHG emissions. As the GHG emissions trading system starts in Korea this year, Seoul City also looks forward to the contribution of knowledge and experience from ICLEI in this regard.
