Hosted by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment (BEE), the Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air and Climate Actions has been an annual professional forum in the field of ecological environment since 2017. ICLEI East Asia has been recognized as a co-host of the Forum since 2019, providing support to their planning and preparation.

The climate emergency is happening right now, in our cities, towns, and regions around the world. Our global leaders are struggling to address this urgent crisis. But the daring actions of local leaders are spreading around the globe.

Created by ICLEI and the Federal City of Bonn, Daring Cities is a virtual, action-oriented forum to recognize and empower courageous urban leaders – including mayors and other decision-makers, technical staff, researchers, private sector representatives, and community organizers – to disrupt business-as-usual and shift towards business-as-possible. Daring Cities showcases and catalyzes exemplary local climate action to tackle the climate emergency, including ambitious resilience-building and climate mitigation efforts.

The EcoMobility World Festival series by ICLEI shows that an ecomobile lifestyle can be promoted in cities around the world. The Festival transforms a neighborhood or a business district in a city into a carfree and ecomobile area for a month. Implementing the Festival demonstrates the possibilities of an innovative and forward-thinking urban mobility culture.

The EcoProcura conference series started in 1998 as a forum to promote exchange and dialogue on the latest strategies and practical solutions for sustainable, circular, and innovative procurement. The conference series has also been replicated in China:

Since 2016, ICLEI East Asia and SHRDC have been co-organizing annual training programs for local government officials in Asia, aiming to help them strengthen their efforts in achieving sustainable urban development. Through policy presentations, site visits, and group discussions, participants of the training programs are provided with the latest insight on topics such as climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy transition, transportation, air quality, waste management, and citizen-led governance.

In response to the heightened demand from the Asia Pacific Region, ICLEI expanded the Resilient Cities congress series in 2015, bringing the event and focus to the Asia Pacific, catering the situation, challenges, and opportunities of local governments specifically in the region.

The Resilience Cities Congress convened annually from 2010 to 2019 by ICLEI and the Federal City of Bonn, providing a global and open space for urban practitioners, policymakers, and researchers working in urban resilience and climate change adaptation. It built an active, informed, and committed community and played a key role in mainstreaming urban resilience in global agreements and processes.

During the 10 years of the Congress, thousands of experts from over 80 countries actively participated in and collaborated on hundreds of capacity-building sessions. Building on the experience and network established during the Congress, the newly launched Daring Cities provides a virtual, action-oriented forum to recognize and empower courageous urban leaders to disrupt business-as-usual and shift towards business-as-possible.

The report Resilient Cities, Thriving Cities: The Evolution of Urban Resilience provides an appraisal of the state of resilient cities from the last decade, as well as the actions of the main players in respective fields.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has been annually hosting the Seoul International Forum on Air Quality Improvement since 2010, providing a platform for local governments in East Asia to discuss and seek joint countermeasures for air quality improvement via international cooperation. The ICLEI East Asia Secretariat has actively contributed to the preparation and the organization of the Forum since 2016.
