2024 Annual Report
In 2024, ICLEI made significant strides in promoting urban sustainability by actively engaging its global members and hosting the impactful ICLEI World Congress in São Paulo, Brazil. The organization also played a vital role in major international meetings, such as CBD COP16 and UNFCCC COP29, showcasing its commitment to global environmental initiatives.
The East Asia Secretariat notably enhanced collaboration with China, Mongolia, and Central Asia, welcoming several new cities into its network, including Shiyan and Lishui in China, as well as the provinces of Darkhan and Erdenet in Mongolia, and cities like Kata-Kurgan, Navoi, and Bukhara Giduvan in Uzbekistan.
ICLEI advanced five key development pathways: Zero-Emission, Nature-Based Solutions, Equity, Resilience, and Circular Development. These pathways facilitated valuable forums where urban leaders could exchange innovative initiatives. Noteworthy initiatives included the launch of the Chinese version of the Financing for Biodiversity Toolkit and the China Resilient Cities Report. Furthermore, ICLEI supported equitable development projects like UrbanShift and the Urban-Rural Assembly.
In December 2024, training programs in Seoul successfully brought together local governments and civil society representatives to focus on essential topics such as environmental protection, sustainable transportation, clean energy, and sustainable agriculture.
Looking ahead, ICLEI East Asia is dedicated to supporting member cities on their journey toward a greener, more resilient, and sustainable future, reinforcing the collaborative efforts needed to achieve impactful urban development.
