Building Efficiency Accelerator Codes Playbook
Building energy codes bring tremendous benefits to the cities and countries that implement them. They change the energy footprint of all new buildings, and the energy savings they bring can reduce energy imports and shortages; improve local air quality, and mitigate climate change while creating jobs and save money. They are win-win strategies, but achieving these benefits requires closely coordinated strategies for code development, adoption and implementation, as well as evaluation and improvement.
This Playbook was made possible thanks to the Global Environment Facility (GEF), who provided funding for the development of this as well as other two playbooks in support of cities, both inside and outside of the Building Efficiency Accelerator (BEA), looking to advance the energy efficiency of their buildings in pursuit of greater sustainability. The Chinese version was coordinated and released by the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat.
